Most nurses say nursing school only teaches you so much, and you have to learn everything else on the job… but that definitely wasn’t my experience. Roberts prepared me well for the real world, including my 2-week adventure to serve patients in Costa Rica.

Frequently Asked Questions

The American Nurses Association refers to modern-day nursing as “the glue that holds a patient’s health care journey together".

They list these as RNs’ key responsibilities:

  • Performing physical exams and health histories before making critical decisions
  • Providing health promotion, counseling, and education
  • Administering medications and other personalized interventions
  • Coordinating care in collaboration with a wide array of healthcare professionals

You can start in one of three ways:

  • Obtaining a bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • An associate’s degree in nursing
  • A diploma from an approved nursing program

This leads us to the next step to becoming an RN – passing the NCLEX Exam (the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses). At Roberts, we’ll boost your confidence in your ability to pass by guiding you through an in-person and nationally standardized preparation course.

After you pass the NCLEX, you’ll have to get a nursing license for the state you’d like to work in.

While nursing can be a very demanding job, it can be highly rewarding. If you’re interested in medicine, patient care, and helping others, it could be a fulfilling choice for you.

Some other benefits of being a nurse include a more financially secure future, a flexible schedule, room for future career growth, and a sense of purpose.

However, becoming a nurse should not be taken lightly as there are more challenging aspects of the job. For instance, you will have to interact with people which may be difficult, work in a stressful environment, and meet intense physical and mental demands.

According to the US Bureau of Labor, the median annual wage for Registered Nurses was $77,600 in 2021. Naturally, the numbers will differ by area, level, field, and position.

The baccalaureate, and masters, and post-graduate APRN certificate programs in nursing, at Roberts Wesleyan University are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) (http://www.ccneaccreditation.org).

Yes! If you come to campus for an individual visit, you can meet individually with a professor to get an overview of the major and your individual questions answered. Our Discovery Day events typically include a Faculty & Services Expo, where you can meet your future professors.
